Set up your clocking policy

The clocking policy controls what your technicians see in the POM mobile app around clocking in: you can require a clock-in before work starts, hide the day's schedule until they clock in, and show jobs one at a time. It only changes the mobile app, not the web app.

Watch: the clocking policy in about a minute.

Before you start

  • The settings live in Settings → Time Clock, on the Clocking policy tab.
  • The settings apply organization-wide. There's no per-technician option on this tab.
  • Nothing on this tab does anything until Use clock in/out is turned on. While it's off, the page shows "Clock in/out is off, so the settings below have no effect."

How to set up your clocking policy

  1. In POM, go to Settings and open Time Clock.
  2. Click the Clocking policy tab.
  3. Turn on Use clock in/out.
  4. Turn on the options you want (each one is explained in the table below).
  5. If you turned on Limit visible upcoming jobs, set Upcoming jobs shown. Set it to 1 to show one job at a time.
  6. If you turned on Clock-in reminder, pick the hour, minute and AM/PM.
  7. Click Save.

You're done. Your technicians will see the new policy in the mobile app.

What each setting does

SettingWhat your technicians see
Use clock in/outTurns the clocking policy on for technicians in the mobile app. Every other setting on this tab depends on it.
Require technicians to clock in before starting a jobTechnicians need to clock in before they start work on a job. Applies to everyone in the organization.
Hide schedule until clocked inThe Home screen shows NOT CLOCKED IN with a Clock In button and the message "Clock in to see today's schedule." The day's jobs appear once they clock in.
Limit visible upcoming jobsTechnicians only see the number of upcoming jobs you set in Upcoming jobs shown. At 1, they see their current stop plus a note like "1 more job today — Record a service for your current job to see the next one."
Clock-in reminderA reminder to clock in at the time you choose each day, in your organization's time zone.
Ask technicians to share location while clocked inTechnicians are asked to share their location while they're clocked in. They can decline, or turn sharing off on their device at any time.

What clocking in looks like on the phone

  1. The technician opens the app and taps Clock In.
  2. They can add an optional note for the shift, then tap Clock In again.
  3. The Home screen switches to CLOCKED IN with the start time, a running timer, a Clock Out button and their first stop.
  4. With jobs limited to 1, the next stop appears after they record a service for the current one.

"My techs can only see one job — is something wrong?"

No, that's Limit visible upcoming jobs working. The next job unlocks when the technician records a service for the current one. If you'd rather they see the whole day, raise Upcoming jobs shown or turn the setting off and click Save.

If it isn't working

  1. Check that Use clock in/out is on. If it's off, none of the other settings apply.
  2. Check that you clicked Save after changing anything.
